Pilates was developed by Joesph H Pilates, though it was not called “Pilates” at that time. Mr. Pilates named this form of movement “Contrology”. Stating in his book, Return to Life Through Contrology,
“Physical fitness can neither be acquired by wishful thinking nor by outright purchase. However, it can be gained through performing the daily exercises conceived for this purpose…”1
Pilates in the simplest terms comprises of a series of exercises performed through proper repetition on various equipment that are purposed to help the student acquire “complete control” of their bodies. Overtime they will gradually and progressively acquire the natural rhythm and coordination associated with all of the activities they perform in their daily lives.2
